  • Women score over men in body fat percentage. Ideal range for women is between 19-21%,whereas for men it is between 16-19%.
  • God has created women’s body ,in such a way,that it stores more fat. Possibly to take care of extra energy needs during pregnancy. Men ,on the other hand, have more muscles in the body.
  • Being fat tends to make you even fatter. Fatness is a vicious ; the more fat you have the more your body chemistry,or metabolism changes to favor the build-up of excess fat.

CORONARY HEART DISEASE

CHD continues to be the leading cause of death in many countries. Despite significant success in reducing the death rate by 40% during the past 30 years ,approximately 1.5 million adults continue to suffer from a heart attack eah year. The situation is even worse in countries like Canada, England, Germany, France, Holland, Yugoslavia and Russia. There are more heart attacks per 1000 adult population in almost all of these countries as compared to the United States.

The incidence of CHD in India is fast catching up with that of developed countries. Over 24 million suffer from heart ailments in India now. At least 20 million others have diagnosed hypertension or increased blood pressure-a major risk factor for CHD.

Coronary heart disease is a preventable condition. We do not have to accept heart attacks as an inevitable part of life. How have the Americans succeeded in reducing the death rate due to heart disease over the past 30 years ? The answer lies in consistent efforts to educate people to control the risk factors leading to coronary heart disease. Many other developed countries have also launched health education programmes. The major risk factors for coronary heart disease include smoking,lack of exercise,high blood pressure or hypertension and high blood cholesterol.

One day, it is possible that your heart may experience lack of oxygen due to insufficient blood supply caused by the slow clogging and blockage of the coronary arteries. This is known as atherosclerosis and is due to the deposition of fat and chlesterol in the walls of your arteries-small-sized pipes that carry blood to different parts of your body,including the heart. If a major artery leading to the heart is completely blocked,this will immediately cut off the blood supply to a part of the heart and cause a heart attack.

TOO MUCH PROTEIN BRINGS DAMAGE

When too much of protein is consumed at one time,it doesn’t get stacked away for future use,instead it is converted to fat by a process called deamination. It will just load the liver where it will get broken down to glucose.  Learn to be shanaa with your protein. Whatever source you choose,veg,non-veg or a supplement,know that without a balanced base line diet , protein by itself will only lead to irritability,sleeplessness, constipation,mood swings and muscle catabolism or wasting. Will it lead to weight loss ? Yes,it will. When the body is given only protein and very little or no carbohydrate,the body first gets rid of its glycogen stores( glucose or sugar stored in liver and muscle) and loses water. After that, actually attacks the muscle tissue itself, burning the amino acids for energy. The result is muscle catabolism and lean body mass loss. Accordingly,regular exercise and a smart use of carbohydrates in the diet lead to protein sparing. What this means is that protein is not burned for energy instead it is used for its intended purpose.

Waist–hip ratio or waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is the ratio of the circumference of the waist to that of the hips. This is calculated as waist measurement divided by hip measurement (W ÷ H). For example, a person with a 25″ (64 cm) waist and 38″ (97 cm) hips has a waist–hip ratio of about 0.66.

The WHR has been used as an indicator or measure of health, and the risk of developing serious health conditions. WHR correlates with fertility (with different optimal values for males and females). Some researchers have found that the waist–hip ratio is a significant measure of female attractiveness.

According to the World Health Organisation’s data gathering protocol the waist circumference should be measured at the midpoint between the lower margin of the last palpable rib and the top of the iliac crest, using a stretch‐resistant tape that provides a constant 100 g tension. Hip circumference should be measured around the widest portion of the buttocks, with the tape parallel to the floor. Other organizations use slightly different standards. The United States National Institutes of Health and the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey used results obtained by measuring at the top of the iliac crest. Waist measurements are usually obtained by laypersons by measuring around the waist at the navel, but research has shown that these measurements may underestimate the true waist circumference.

 

For both measurements, the individual should stand with feet close together, arms at the side and body weight evenly distributed, and should wear little clothing. The subject should be relaxed, and the measurements should be taken at the end of a normal respiration. Each measurement should be repeated twice; if the measurements are within 1 cm of one another, the average should be calculated. If the difference between the two measurements exceeds 1 cm, the two measurements should be repeated.

Practically, however, the waist is more conveniently measured simply at the smallest circumference of the natural waist, usually just above the belly button, and the hip circumference may likewise be measured at its widest part of the buttocks or hip. Also, in case the waist is convex rather than concave, such as is the case in pregnancy, different body types, and obesity, the waist may be measured at a horizontal level 1 inch above the navel.

WHR has been found to be a more efficient predictor of mortality in older people (>75 years of age) than waist circumference or BMI. If obesity is redefined using WHR instead of BMI, the proportion of people categorized as at risk of heart attack worldwide increases threefold.The body fat percentage is considered to be an even more accurate measure of relative weight. Of these three measurements, only the waist–hip ratio takes account of the differences in body structure. Hence, it is possible for two women to have vastly different body mass indices but the same waist–hip ratio, or to have the same body mass index but vastly different waist–hip ratios.

 

WHR has been shown to be a better predictor of cardiovascular disease than waist circumference and body-mass index. However, other studies have found waist circumference, not WHR, to be a good indicator of cardiovascular risk factors, body fat distribution, and hypertension in type 2 diabetes.
